UW, including Bothell campus, makes large contributions to local and state economy, employment

The University of Washington (UW) recently released an economic impact report which measured the economic, employment and government revenue impacts of operations and research at the Seattle, Tacoma and Bothell campuses. The report shows that overall, UW makes tremendous contributions to the state's economy, more than $9 billion.

The University of Washington (UW) recently released an economic impact report which measured the economic, employment and government revenue impacts of operations and research at the Seattle, Tacoma and Bothell campuses.

The report shows that overall, UW makes tremendous contributions to the state’s economy, more than $9 billion.

UW Bothell, according to fall 2010 data, has 119 enrollees from Redmond and the impact of this campus on the state’s economy is $191 million, which includes a direct impact of $83 million and indirect impact of $108 million through expenditures, governrment revenues, the employment of faculty and staff and personal income of residents.

UW Bothell currently provides programs in Bothell, Bellevue, Everett and Mount Vernon. Its student populations comes from around the Puget Sound, with 64 percent coming from King County and 30 percent from Snohomish County.

Additionally, more than 7,000 UW Bothell alumni live and work in King and Snohomish Counties.

“By educating smart people and generating great ideas, the UW will play a crucial role in helping Washington state recover and build a global economy in the post-Great Recession era,” UW president Mark Emmert stated in a press release.
