Crime prevention in action
August 7, 2008 · Updated 1:15 PM
The 25th Annual National Night Out, a community crime prevention event, produced plenty of fun for Redmond neighbors — and two arrests.
There were 30 block parties in Redmond Tuesday night, celebrating the annual event, which allows residents to meet police officers, build community relationships and take a stand against crime.
Redmond Police officers, the K-9 team and firefighters toured the city, visiting different block parties. Even Mayor John Marchione and McGruff the Crime Dog made some special appearances.
“I think people had a lot of fun,” said Jim Bove, the Redmond Police Department Community Outreach Facilitator.
However, a couple of not-so-bright car prowlers were not aware of the event and got caught red-handed. While making their rounds during the event, Redmond police officers were able to catch two car prowlers near Northeast 76th Street and 185th Avenue Northeast at around 5:30 p.m.
“I don’t know what they were thinking,” Bove said. “It was broad daylight and a real busy time of day.”
National Night Out proves to be hit for neighbors, and a bummer for criminals
