May 30, 2008 · Updated 12:59 PM
Back for a fourth season at an improved location, King Countys popular Movies @ Marymoor outdoor cinema series features family favorites, hilarious comedies and even a little mystery.
This has become a classic summertime event for many people, said King County Parks Director Kevin Brown. The Northwests long summer evenings are perfect for enjoying King Countys wonderful parks and this family friendly outdoor activity.
Kicking off the 2008 Movies @ Marymoor season on July 16 is the Will Ferrell hit, Anchorman. The award-winning Juno is next on July 23, followed by the critically acclaimed Monsoon Wedding on July 30.
The wet weather theme continues Aug. 6 with the classic, Singin in the Rain. The 2007 hit remake of Hairspray is scheduled for Aug. 13 and is followed by The Muppet Movie Aug. 20 and a viewers choice movie Aug. 27.
The final movie of the year will be selected by moviegoers, who can cast their votes for one of three popular movies. Voting starts July 16 and can be done in-person at each movie night or online via King County Parks Web site.
The movie with the most votes will be announced at the Aug. 20 movie and shown as the series finale Aug. 27.
Movies this year will be shown at Marymoor Parks concert venue, a beautiful amphitheater-like setting near historic Clise Mansion. All movies are shown on a 30-foot by 50-foot inflatable screen, with high-quality sound, which is supplied by Epic Events.
Seating opens at 7 p.m., and movies begin at dusk. Admission is free, but a donation of $5 for individuals and $15 for families is suggested. Proceeds go to support King County Parks.
Heres the complete line-up and approximate start time for each movie:
July 16, 9 p.m.: Anchorman (PG13)
July 23, 8:54 p.m.: Juno (PG-13)
July 30, 8:45 p.m.: Monsoon Wedding (R)
Aug. 6, 8:35 p.m.: Singing in the Rain (G)
Aug. 13, 8:23 p.m.: Hairspray (PG)
Aug. 20, 8:11 p.m.: The Muppet Movie (G)
Aug. 27, 7:58 p.m.: Viewers Choice
Seating is on the ground, so low-back lawn chairs or blankets are recommended. Popcorn, coffee, and other treats are available for purchase. Outside food is allowed, and movie-goers are encouraged to use the recycling and compost bins.
This is also a dog-friendly event, so feel free to bring your pooch to the movies. People with pets are asked to sit at the far end of the seating area. Pets are required to be on a leash and under control at all times, and owners must clean up after pets.
More information is available at http://www.metrokc.gov/parks/movies/index.html, or by calling the Marymoor Park office at 206-205-3661.
Movies @ Marymoor is part of Summer Nights in Redmond, which features three nights of free, family-oriented outdoor entertainment every Wednesday through Friday beginning July 16.
