The Redmond Arts Commission is looking for applications from Redmond residents who are interested in developing and supporting the arts. Positions are open for both youth advocates and arts commissioners.

The Arts Commission has two Youth Advocate and two Arts Commissioner positions available. The youth advocates need to be between the ages of 16 and 19 and want to share their views about what’s important to Redmond’s youth regarding art in the community. Their terms begin in April 2009 for one year. The arts commissioners serve three-year terms. Both the youth advocates and arts commissioners attend Redmond Arts Commission meetings once a month (second Thursday of each month) and also may work on commission projects of interest to them.

The mission of the arts commission is “Enhancing our community through the arts.” They work to achieve excellence in arts programming; nurture and support artists, arts organizations and arts education and promote attendance at arts events.

The commission also makes recommendations to the Mayor and City Council regarding arts-related acquisitions, programs, projects and events.

Interested applicants can download an application at www.redmond.gov/arts or call (425) 556-2316 to have an application mailed to them. The deadline for youth advocate applications is Feb. 2 and for the arts commissioner applications, it is Feb. 17. For more information, contact myelanjian@redmond.gov or (425) 556-2316.
