Good Samaritans are amongst us | Letter

We would like to thank the Redmond police officer and the individual(s) who went out of their way to return a young man’s wallet after he had unknowingly dropped it in front of Half Price Books on June 1.

David Gebhardt, 17, who lives in Atlanta, Ga., was visiting his father in Redmond. They had parked at the Leary Way/Bear Creek Parkway parking lot and went to a local establishment for a bite to eat. Unbeknownst to David, his wallet with his out-of-state ID fell out of his pocket on the way back to the car. An hour or so later, a Redmond police officer who was able to track down where David was staying because of his unusual last name (Gebhardt) came walking up the driveway and handed him his wallet with everything intact, including his money.

We shudder at how that could have turned out if his wallet was not returned. Especially since he was visiting and needed to catch his flight home a few days later and would need his ID. Thank you again to the person(s) who found his wallet and the police officer who returned it to him personally.

There are definitely good Samaritans amongst us.

Bill Gebhardt and Diane Groendyke
