Building community at Crossroads Bellevue

From spa treatments supporting cancer research to Halloween fun for kids, find it at the Crossroads!

In sharing her story about the impact of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Seattle Walk, Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa’s Dana Manciagli has created an even wider impact. Dana’s three battles with breast cancer have inspired spa owner Shellie Fredrich to support the fight to end breast cancer with a month-long campaign in support of Making Strides Seattle and their Oct. 20 walk event.

At the Crossroads Bellevue Hand & Stone Spa though October, for every upgrade from a regular massage to a Hot Stone or Himalayan Salt Stone Massage, and every addition of LED Phototherapy to a facial, the spa will donate 20 per cent of the cost to Making Strides, Fredrich says.

The win-win not only provides valuable resources in support of cancer efforts, but also an opportunity for clients to feel good treating themselves to a service they may not have tried before.

“We’re always looking for ways to support the fight against cancer and get involved in initiatives important to the community,” Fredrich says, noting the spa also provides oncology massage for those out of active treatment.

Crossroads: A community-minded center

The Hand & Stone Spa’s efforts are just one example of Crossroads Bellevue’s community-minded approach, says Marketing Director Sue Popma.

A true neighborhood destination, the collection of shops and services is in many ways more community center than mall.

“When you first walk into the main area, there’s a Starbucks and a bookstore so you immediately feel you’re in this really welcoming, communal space where people may be visiting, reading or just doing homework,” Popma reflects.

“It has been called ‘The Eastside’s Living Room’ and it really has that kind of feel.”

A destination for families

Beyond the diversity of shops and services at Crossroads, the centre is a destination for families. Little ones delight in the 25-cent vintage kids’ rides dotted throughout the mall, Regal Crossroads movie theater and of course, the award-winning state-of-the-art indoor playground, WiggleWorks Kids.

“There’s just a lot for kids to do and families appreciate that,” Popma says.

Then there’s the popular monthly Date Night events, offering a chance to get away for dinner – Crossroads is renowned for its international offerings – plus live music, a movie, ceramics night or even a challenging adventure at Stone Gardens climbing facility!

Halloween happenings

Also coming up for families is the annual Crossroads Bellevue Halloween festivities, including community trick-or-treating at the exterior merchants from 4 to 6 p.m. before families head inside for music on the Market Stage from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
