In a pivotal 4A Kingco Crest division matchup between two strong, ranked programs, the Redmond Mustangs beat Newport, 4-3, on Monday night at home.
Hits and runs were scarce in a battle between flamethrowers Dylan Davis for the Mustangs and Jared Fisher for the Knights, but Redmond got on the board early with an RBI single by junior Patrick McGrath. In the third inning, Cody Beliel drove in another with an RBI double, and Michael Conforto forced home a run with a bases-loaded walk — one of three for Conforto.
Davis gave up three runs, only one earned, in three innings before the bullpen shut the Knights down, with Conforto striking out the side for the save.
With the win, Redmond remains the only unbeaten team in the Crest Division at 3-0 and improved to 6-2 overall.
