May 30, 2008 · Updated 12:39 PM
Alcohol and speed caused a crash along Avondale Road Northeast that killed a 30-year-old Kirkland man early last Friday.
The man, who was driving more than 100 miles an hour and not wearing a seat belt, lost control of his car and hit several trees before landing on the side of the road, according to Redmond Police Department public information officer Jim Bove.
There were no other persons involved.
The man was traveling south on Avondale Road in the Redmond area shortly before 3 a.m. when residents heard a crash and called 911, Bove said.
Avondale Road has a 40-mph speed limit and was closed for more than seven hours while the investigation was conducted.
During interviews, Redmond Police learned that the driver consumed alcohol earlier in the evening. Exact cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner.
