Join with friends, family and fellow outdoors enthusiasts in a fun event that supports King County Parks — the Big Backyard 5K presented by Group Health, June 2 at Marymoor Park.
“Group Health is pleased to have been a longtime sponsor of the Big Backyard 5K. We believe that participating in events like these motivate people to get healthy and stay healthy,” said Damien King, community relations manager for Group Health.
The Big Backyard 5K starts at 9 a.m. and takes participants through Marymoor Park at the northern end of Lake Sammamish. The course follows the Marymoor Connector Trail and a portion of the East Lake Sammamish Trail. This family-friendly event welcomes strollers and leashed dogs.
A free kids’ dash sponsored by Whole Foods Market follows the fun run at 10 a.m., and then it’s time for a free live concert at 10:30 a.m. Whole Foods Market and CLIF Kid are also on board to support this family-friendly race.
“Our 26,000 acres of parks, 175 miles of regional trails and 180 miles of back-country trails provide virtually limitless possibilities for healthy activities that all can enjoy, and the Big Backyard 5K is a great opportunity to come have some fun in Marymoor Park,” said King County Parks Director Kevin Brown.
For just $25, entrants will receive an event T-shirt, plus food, drinks and more on race day. Registration for the 2013 run is easy — sign up online at www.bby5k.com.
The Big Backyard 5K promotes fitness and community involvement, and has raised nearly $95,000 in the past three years for King County Parks.
Funds help leverage King County taxpayers’ investment in parks, trails and open space by keeping these features open and safe for all to enjoy.
