On Monday, Redmond-based Aegis Living will celebrate “Happiness Happens Day,” an unofficial holiday designed to recognize that happiness is contagious and that the simple act of sharing happiness brings joy to others.

The home office in Redmond and all 28 Aegis Living communities across the western United States will be sharing “Happiness Happens” stickers and contributing to the social media campaign #LiveHappy.

The assisted living company is also inspired by a July, 2016 Harris Poll Happiness Index study that says older Americans are happier than their younger counterparts. But by far, the biggest inspiration comes from Aegis Living’s more than 2,000 residents, people like 93-year-old Mona Thompson, who lives with her husband Art at Aegis at Marymoor in Redmond. Mona — who was selected as Aegis Queen for Redmond’s Derby Days — stays in touch with her grandchildren, wears a constant smile and never leaves her room without her tiara.
