L’Oreal-owned Clarisonic — a world-renowned beauty device company — will lay off 120 employees over the next 15 months at its Redmond production facility and Kent distribution center.

A Clarisonic spokesperson noted that the vast majority of the reductions will affect the Redmond facility. The two offices will remain open along with the global headquarters in Redmond.

According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification email, employees were notified on Tuesday and the reductions will be effective starting Nov. 21.

In 2011, L’Oreal acquired Clarisonic, which has been headquartered in Redmond since 2004. Clarisonic has sold more than 15 million beauty devices worldwide with its patented skin-cleansing devices leading the way in sales.

Product innovation and internal research remains a priority for Clarisonic at its Redmond headquarters, a company statement reads.

“In order to provide additional manufacturing expertise to produce the beauty devices of today and tomorrow, Clarisonic has decided to make a gradual transition to shift its production to external manufacturing partners. The transition will be complete by the end of 2017,” the statement reads.

Affected employees have been notified and will receive financial support and job placement resources, as well as the opportunity to apply for other positions within L’Oreal.

“Clarisonic is very grateful for the contributions of these employees and is committed to supporting these colleagues throughout the transition period,” the statement reads.

Founded more than 100 years ago, L’Oreal has its United States headquarters in New York, NY, and it has five manufacturing facilities in five states, including the one in Redmond. The company has 15 distribution facilities in six states, including the one in Kent.
