Huge tree falls onto Northeast 124th Street in Redmond; no vehicles involved

A mammoth maple tree, approximately 60 feet tall, fell onto Northeast 124th Street near Woodinville-Redmond Road Northeast, covering both lanes, this morning. No vehicles were involved, there were no injuries and no power lines were hit.

The King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) received the call at about 10:38 a.m. Redmond police and fire, Kirkland police and King County roads crews were also on scene. As King County crews waited for a loader to remove the tree, the road was closed to traffic and was expected to reopen by noon today.

The tree was cracked in many pieces as cars drove up the street and were told to turn back around while crews assessed the situation.

A KCSO officer on scene wasn’t sure exactly why the tree fell, possibly because of wet conditions. The tree, which is about three feet in diameter, took out part of the guardrail as it fell from the south part of the road to the north.
