Redmond’s Hooper appointed to the State Emergency Management Council

The City of Redmond Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Director Dr. Pattijean Hooper was recently appointed to the Washington State Emergency Management Council (EMC). She is one of 17 members representing the Washington State Emergency Management Association (WSEMA) on the council.

The EMC is the statewide policy body that reviews ongoing emergency management issues and initiatives and provides the Military Department with essential management advice. The council is representative of the various emergency management disciplines such as the Washington State Patrol, fire departments, search and rescue organizations, police chiefs, medical professionals and local emergency management directors.

“Dr. Hooper’s appointment to the council gives a voice to our city as the primary work of the council is to advise the governor on emergency preparedness matters,” stated Fire Chief Tommy Smith.

Dr. Hooper, who has a Ph.D., brings an extensive background in emergency management to the city’s public safety team and has been working as the Emergency Management director for Redmond since July.
