Seven Redmond teams remain in Hopelink Can Madness food drive competition

Redmond teams continue to dominate Hopelink’s eighth annual Can Madness competitive food drive, with seven surviving their head-to-head first-round brackets and moving on to the round of 16. Last week, 32 teams combined brought in a first-round record 9,932 pounds of food and $6,284 in cash. The next weigh-in for the remaining teams will be Friday.

The seven Redmond teams moving on this week join nine other competitors from Kirkland, Shoreline, Seattle and Bothell in round two of the drive to help stock the agency’s five food banks. In Redmond, last year’s final two competitors – Hancock’s Bakery and City of Redmond – are joined by Accenture, McDonald’s Book Exchange, The Spur Group, VCA Redmond Animal Hospital and Wyndam Vacation Ownership.

Remaining Kirkland teams are Hallmark Realty, Lake Washington Physical Therapy (both Houghton and downtown Kirkland locations) and 2015 champion Xtreme Consulting Group, Inc.

Two Shoreline teams remain in the competition: First Lutheran Church of Richmond Beach and OAC Services. Seattle teams still in the tournament are Point It Digital Marketing and Theo Chocolate, while Winshuttle LLC will represent Bothell.

The drive is patterned after the national spring college basketball tournament, matching businesses in weekly competitions to see which can bring in the most food. Teams are bracketed together in pairs and one winner from each two-member bracket advances to the following week. The competition will continue until the winner is announced April 7.
