Undefeated Evergreen Middle School team heads to National Science Bowl competition

A team of students from Evergreen Middle School (EMS) went undefeated at a regional competition to qualify for the National Science Bowl (NSB).

A team of students from Evergreen Middle School (EMS) went undefeated at a regional competition to qualify for the National Science Bowl (NSB).

The national finals are April 28-May 2, in Washington, D.C. and are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy.

The undefeated team of Sathvik Kakanuru, Mahathi Mangipudi, Maneesh Rajagopal, Arpit Ranasaria and Vedantha Venkatapathy won the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) Regional Science Bowl Competition.

The regionals took place Jan. 30 at the University of Portland. More than 700 middle school and high school students from across western Washington and Oregon competed. Teams from Redmond Middle School and Northstar Middle School also placed in the top 13 at the BPA Regional event.

The Science Bowl is a fast-paced academic bowl. It tests students’ knowledge in all aspects of science, including  math, geology, chemistry, physics, environmental science and more.

The EMS team won an all-expenses-paid trip to the finals. They also won a trophy, individual awards and an “NSB 2016 Regional Champions” banner for their school.
