Carol passed from this life peacefully on December 15th 2012. She was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts on December 4th 1936 to Dana and Alice (Oliver) Symonds. The majority of her childhood was spent in San Diego with her two younger sisters Donna and Alice. She later moved to the Seattle area where she spent the majority of her life. She has been described as Strong, Resilient, A Survivor, Accepting, Fiercely Loving, Hilarious, A Rock, The Matriarch, Best Friend, Wife, Sister, Auntie, Nana and Mom. Her life was full of greatness and wonder. She was a bank teller, worked in a bingo hall, traveled with the carnival (where she owned several booths), and ran a daycare for the last 23 years of her life. Her friendships were strong and everlasting. Carol Mae is survived by her loving husband of 33 years Jerry Askew, sister Donna Shinn (Kirkland) and Alice Vlcek (St. Louis, MO), 3 sons, Dana Chaffin (Redmond), Scott Chaffin (Colbert), and Tom Askew (Issaquah), 2 Step-Children Laura (Askew) Brantner (Durand, WI) and Steve Askew (Poulsbo), 11 grandchildren Jason, Tanner, Hanna, Melissa, Neil, Summer, Erika, India, Ivy, Lisa and Makayla, many cherished nieces and nephews and cousins and countless families whose children she cared for at Happy Days Day Care. Carol, to you everyone was family and you will be truly missed by so many. Go in peace knowing that the foundation that you worked so hard to create will sustain for generations and that you life was success. Well done my good and faithful one. An Open House Celebration of Life will be held at Sunset Hills Memorial Home 1215 145th Place SE Bellevue on Wednesday December 19th from 6pm-9pm. As Carol would have liked, this is an informal event, come as you see fit, when you like. In lieu of flowers please make a donation the American Cancer Society on Carol’s behalf.
