JOHN ROGER WELLMAN

John Roger Wellman, of Sammamish WA, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2018 in Issaquah Nursing and Rehab.

Mr. Wellman was born on July 10, 1942 in Maywood, CA, the son of June and William W. Wellman. He was raised in Pasadena, CA and graduated from San Marino High School. He also attended Pasadena City College in California. John entered the U.S. Army on November 15, 1965 at Fort Polk, LA. He signed up for an extra year and spent three years in Germany. John was discharged with honorable service on October 21, 1968.

On February 14, 1976, John married Carol Chiles in Oneonta Congressional Church, San Marino, CA.

Mr. Wellman worked as a draftsman for the Orange County, CA, Public Works for 15 years. He then moved to Washington State in 1984. After spending 6 months on Whidbey Island, he finally settled in Redmond in 1986. He worked for the City of Redmond Public works for 19 years.

He was a member of Washington Prospector Mining Association, of Bellevue Rock Club, the Snoqualmie Rifle Club, and Northwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies. John volunteered with the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) for many years. The team worked in conjunction with the Redmond Police and Fire Department to provide services to the community.

Mr. Wellman’s hobbies and interests were gold panning, collecting minerals, Irish music, getting together and jamming with others, he was a guitar enthusiast, he also loved making wine and root beer.

Survivors include wife, Carol Wellman, of Sammamish, WA; son, Tim Wellman, and future daughter-in-law LiQing Li in Seoul, Korea; sister Chris Wells of Glendora, CA; cousins Barrie, Susan, and Brian Wellman of Lake Forest, CA and numerous other loving family members.

John will be laid to rest at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St., Kent, WA 98042-4868. His committal service will begin at 1:30pm on September 27, 2018 with Joint Base Lewis-McChord providing the honors. Following the ceremony will be a reception at Pogacha restaurant in Issaquah on Gilman Blvd.
