Richard Henderson Schwanke

August 13, 1923 – October 3, 2016

Dick Schwanke lived in Iowa and Illinois before coming to Redmond, WA in 1997, with his late wife, Carita. He used his ham radio for personal contacts and for emergency communications for the Seattle Marathon, Redmond Police Department, and several networks such as Navy MARS, ARES, and EARS. He also volunteered with the Emerald Lights newsletter and the Emerald Heights TV network, KHTS. He played and directed bridge games.

Those who will miss him include 4 children and their spouses: Lee (Mac) MacLaren and wife, Darcy; Ann Schwanke; Robert Schwanke and wife, Karlyn; and Bethel Strawser and husband, Ron. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive him.

No flowers, please. Memorial Gifts may be made to the Emerald Heights Benevolence Fund or University of Rochester or the Gene and Irene Wockner Hospice Center of EvergreenHealth Hospital in Kirkland.

A reception commemorating his life will be held at Emerald Heights 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 26.
