Voting for Ramiro Valderrama | Letters

• We need a change in Olympia. Roger Goodman has been around too long. In my view, he no longer represents the changing needs of the 45th Legislative District.

I worked with Ramiro Valderrama when we were both at Microsoft. I found him to be a thoughtful and hardworking leader. I was constantly impressed with his focus on goals and how to achieve them.

Although I live in Redmond, I have followed Valderrama’s tenure as Sammamish City Council member and deputy mayor. He is a rational and reasonable leader who listens to the needs of his constituents. He supports small business, which is extraordinarily important to the district. He also has the ability to cut through the hype on issues like transit to get to the real bottom line on what will work and what will be cost effective.

He has been endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Business and has received the highest possible rating of “outstanding” from the non-partisan Municipal League.

I strongly endorse Valderrama for state representative. I hope that everyone, irrespective of political affiliation, will look at his strong track record and vote for him.

• We need state representatives like Ramiro Valderrama in Olympia. I am proud to be serving with him on the Sammamish City Council, and I’ve learned about how he thinks, acts and represents his constituents.

He is a “doer” and just gets things done. He listens closely and intently to the concerns of all the citizens of Sammamish, and I know he would do the same for those in the 45th Legislative District. Even more importantly than just listening, he then takes action and makes sure that the concerns are acted upon.

In addition, his integrity is impeccable. As a combat military veteran, I’m keenly aware of the views and beliefs instilled in those of us who have served our great country. Having graduated from West Point, Valderrama exemplifies the highest standards of excellence in leadership and service to others. I can say that I’d proudly serve alongside of him in any battle.

After serving with him and getting to better understand how he thinks, acts and represents his voters, I believe that the voters in the 45th Legislative District would genuinely benefit by electing him as their representative. He is the proven advocate! Have your voice heard; vote Valderrama.

• Citizens want to be heard. They have concerns and they have needs in their community. Electing a representative that will hear and act on those needs and concerns is of great importance. It’s how you make sure that the need is addressed, and in a responsive and timely manner.

I work alongside such an official. In my capacity as a Sammamish City Council member, I get to see citizen requests moved from a plea for help, to a tangible action in the form of proposed legislation. It’s how, in a perfect world, government is supposed to work. This citizen champion I work alongside is Ramiro Valderrama. He is responsive to concerns, large and small, that citizens bring forth. He has shown the citizens of Sammamish that he is their champion.

Now, in his bid for the House of Representatives in the 45th Legislative District, he will take your concerns and desires and make them action items. It takes a certain type of individual, one committed to those he or she represents, to truly listen and work for solutions. Be it public safety, transportation, education or otherwise, I believe Valderrama can serve the 45th well by listening and through action.

• Ramiro Valderrama has served the City of Sammamish well and will be able to do even more for its citizens as our representative in Olympia.

One of the issues we all face on the Eastside is balanced growth. He has worked tirelessly to preserve the character of our communities and preserve the environment, as well as advocating for homeowners. He knows waste when he sees it.

He is strongly opposed to the $54 billion Sound Transit 3 measure that we will see on our ballots in November. He calls it “Taxation without Transportation.”

He also believes that voters should approve, by two thirds majority, any tax increases proposed by the Legislature.

He is a firm believer in transparency in government and holding it accountable for actions undertaken by its lawmakers.

A vote for Valderrama is a vote for sensible, much needed change.
