Mustangs' soccer season ends in shootout
November 2, 2011 · Updated 3:01 PM
Playing in a loser-out game in the 4A Kingco soccer tournament, the Redmond girls' team suffered a tough shootout loss, 2-1, to rival Eastlake on Tuesday night, ending their season in the consolation finals.
After the Wolves took a 1-0 lead late in the first half on a free kick goal, Kelsey Costello tied it back up at 1-1 in the 70th minute, scoring unassisted on a 12-yard shot from the right side.
The Mustangs had a chance to take the lead, but Eastlake goalie Bryce Kennedy made a great save to tip Kristin Hayman's 25-yard shot off the crossbar, with Kennedy making two more key saves in overtime.
In the sixth round of penalty kicks, Costello's low, left-side shot was blocked by Kennedy to seal the Wolves' win.
The Mustangs ended the season at 8-7-3 overall.
