The Redmond boys’ basketball team was unable to keep up with streaking Garfield as the Mustangs lost 65-45 in a winner-to-state game held Thursday night at Juanita High School.

Tony Wroten, averaging 18.6 points per game this year, put in a game-high 26 for the Bulldogs (19-3), who have won nine straight. Redmond guard Chris Harrington led the Mustangs with 12 points.

The last time the two teams met on Friday, Feb. 6, Redmond senior Sean Shewey ran out of the stands and punched guard De’Andre Taylor in the face, which started a raucous melee on the court and caused the game to be called in the fourth quarter.

The fourth-ranked Bulldogs and the Mustangs met at midcourt just prior to last Thursday’s game for a friendly handshake in an effort to put the past behind them and focus on the task at hand.

The Mustangs (13-9) will take on the Bothell Cougars on Tuesday.
