Redmond residents, athletes and officals celebrated the installation and grand opening of a new turf ball field last Friday at Grass Lawn Park with a ceremony and ribbon-cutting.

Mayor John Marchione was part of the festivities, which included a 4A Kingco Conference softball game featuring rivals Redmond and Garfield. The Mustangs won, 10-0, in five innings.

The Mustangs (12-2 in league, 13-3 overall) take on Newport tonight at 4:30 p.m. at Newport and then play host to Issaquah Wednesday night in their regular-season finale.

The new field represented a milestone for FieldTurf Tarkett, the company installing the playing surface, as it was their 3,000th turf field installation in the United States.
