The Redmond Majors Softball All-Stars won the District 9 Championship earlier this month and followed it up with a third-place finish at the Washington State Majors Little League tournament at Valley Ridge Park in Sea-Tac last week.
The defending state champions, Redmond dominated the field at the district tournament, outscoring their opponents 36-4, including an 11-0 shutout of Bellevue/Mercer Island in the championship game.
At state, the team got off to a red-hot start, beating Aberdeen 27-3 and Sedro-Wooley 19-7 before barely surviving a third-round battle with Mill Creek, 8-7, in nine innings.
An 11-1 win over East Jefferson in the quarterfinals saw Redmond just two games away from a second-consecutive state title, but LaCenter dashed the team's hopes with a 6-5 victory in the semis.
"We had a great run winning the District 9 Championship, then taking third at state," said team manager Jeff Johnson. "It was fun, and the kids were amazing."
For the postseason, Daiana Kaplan led the team, batting a torrid .625 (15-for-24), followed by Destiny Curtin at .467 (14-for-30, 2 home runs, 12 RBI) and Julia Pechatschek at .444 (12-for-27, 16 runs scored).
Sarah Johnson started all eight postseason games and finished with a 6-1 overall record.Contact Redmond Reporter Sports Reporter Tim Watanabe at firstname.lastname@example.org or (425) 867-0353, ext. 5054.
