Growls baseball ends season at state tournament

Overlake-Bear Creek’s baseball season came to an end with a 7-6 loss to King’s Way Christian in the 1A state tournament on Saturday.

The Growls finished with a 21-4 record.

In the teams’ second game of the day — the Growls beat Montesano, 5-0, earlier — the locals led 5-1 after five innings before King’s tallied three runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to grab the lead. The Growls scored one in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough.

For the Growls, Karsten Kohout had three hits and four RBIs, Peter Dudunakis had two hits and one RBI and Tellier Lundquist had two hits and scored three runs against King’s.

Against Montesano, Ryan Long tossed a two-hitter and fanned 11 batters to earn the win.

Dudunakis had two hits, Neal Sivadas had two hits and one RBI and Ryan Eldridge had two hits and one RBI.

Both games were played at Castle Rock High.
