Overlake boys soccer beats Toledo-Winlock, 1-0, in state opener

Overlake beat Toledo-Winlock, 1-0, in the opening round of the 1A state tournament on Wednesday at Centralia High.

Loucas Tsilas scored and Blaise Beachman had the assist.

Overlake outshot Toledo, 15-1.

The Owls will next play Charles Wright at 8 p.m. tonight at Curtis High in Tacoma.

“Key to the team’s success this year has certainly been the defense. We have two tremendous goalies (Luke Brezak and Lucas Rojas) anchoring a very strong back line,” said coach Bob Bristol.

Those two keepers shared the shutout against Toledo.

Crucial defenders are Nathan Cunningham, Joseph Raymond, Bryce Goldman and Kirby Wethebee, the last two who are dangerous coming forward in attack, Bristol added. In the center midfield, Brevin Lacy and Nate Scochdopole have played solid.

“Scoring has been spread out this year with nearly every player on the team getting at least one goal, but forwards Esty Sanchez and Blaise Beachman have been the most dangerous for us,” Bristol said.
