Overlake downs Klahowya, 3-0, in 1A girls state soccer playoffs

Overlake’s girls soccer team defeated Klahowya, 3-0, in the first round of the 1A state playoffs on Tuesday night at Interlake High.

Jaquelin Nordhoff struck first with a 25-yard blast in the 31st minute off an assist from Kayla Ngai.

Smith Hunter added another goal on a breakaway in the 39th minute.

Overlake’s final tally was on a Klahowya own goal in the 67th minute.

Owl goalkeeper Julia Noble made several stellar saves and recorded the shutout.

“Once we settled in and managed their early pressure, we started to get good chances,” said Owl coach Sally Goodspeed. “Jaquelin’s goal was huge and settled us down. Smith’s goal right before half was big going into the break and kept the momentum going in our favor.”

Overlake (17-1) will next play Meridian at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Interlake.
