Redmond senior Kara Zitzman won the girls’ 4A Kingco district medalist title on Tuesday at Snohomish Golf Course in dramatic fashion, defeating teammate Sydney Conway and Dana Mydland of Eastlake with a birdie on the first playoff hole.
All three girls were tied with 7-over 79s after 18 holes.
Redmond ran away with the team title with 181 points with cumulative stroke totals of 417 on Tuesday and 420 on Wednesday, enough to finish ahead of Eastlake (139 points). The Mustangs clinched the Kingco title for the sixth consecutive year.
To anyone following 4A Kingco baseball, just one week ago it would have been unfathomable to think that the Redmond Mustangs, ranked second in the state and riding a 10-game win streak going into the league tournament, would get knocked out in the third round.
