Prep Report: Grizzlies make a date with state

The Bear Creek School boys' and girls' basketball teams continued their dream seasons last night at Chief Leschi School, both coming up victorious in winner-to-state games in the 2B Bi-District basketball tournament.

The Lady Grizzlies shined on defense during their 43-20 win over Mount Vernon Christian, marked by a 19-point explosion in the third quarter to put the game away.

Nikki Peterson followed up her career-high 25 last Friday with a game-high 16 points and seven rebounds, followed by Catherine Fernandez with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Maddie Magee added eight points and six steals.

With the win, the Grizzlies improved to 19-0 this year and will play Darrington this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in the district title game at Chief Leschi. Both teams advance to state with the winner earning the top seed to state.

The boys’ team pounded Seattle Lutheran 64-30 as the Grizzlies buried them early with pinpoint shooting.

Freshman guard Luke Blankenbeckler drained five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 19, followed by Lucas Peterson with 14 and Ryan Strandin with 12.

The Grizzlies improved to 19-3 with the win and will take on La Conner on at 6:15 p.m. Saturday night at Chief Leschi in the district championship contest.
