Redmond High athletes shine at state swim and dive meet

Mustangs set four school records.

Redmond High swimmers set four school records at the 4A state swim and dive championships over the weekend at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Catherine Yu was tops for the Mustangs with a third in the 100 breaststroke and a fifth in the 200 individual medley, and Redmond took 10th in the team standings.

Yu’s times were 1:03.12 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:03.97 in the 200 IM. Both marks are new school records and the 100 breaststroke mark is an All-American consideration time.

Redmond’s 200 freestyle relay, featuring Jamee Gray, Cassandra Ross, Andrea Wu and Claire Wu, finished sixth in 1:40.38. The Mustangs’ 400 freestyle relay, featuring Yu, Ross, Andrea Wu and Claire Wu, took seventh in 3:39.04. Both marks are also school records.

Redmond’s other relay, the 200 medley, took 10th in 1:50.15 backed by Yu, Gray, Ross and Kaitlin Blackmon.

Isabella Bono took 10th in the 500 freestyle in 5:08.33 and Leah Schare placed 14th in the 1-meter diving event.
