“A Doll’s House,” one of the most controversial plays ever written, opens April 9 and runs through May 1 at SecondStory Repertory, the professional theatre at Redmond Town Center.

The production is an award-winning translation by Frank McGuiness, based on the classic play by Henrik Ibsen. The story was inspired by a woman Ibsen knew, whose husband claimed she was an unfit wife and mother and committed to her an asylum. In Ibsen’s notes, he wrote, “A woman cannot be herself in modern society, with laws made by men and with prosecutors and judges who assess female conduct from a male standpoint.”

“A Doll’s House” has a pay-what-you can preview at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 8. The show officially opens April 9 and runs Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. through May 1.

Tickets are $25 general admission; $19 for students, seniors and educators with ID.
