Redmond woman spends her 89th birthday volunteering

Adele Pickett of Redmond spent her 89th birthday on July 12 doing the same thing she does every Monday afternoon — volunteering at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center in Kirkland.

Pickett welcomes patients, family members and visitors to the hospital from noon-4 p.m. each Monday. She works behind the information desk at Evergreen’s main entrance. She has been volunteering at the hospital since 1984. She has volunteered more than 4,200 hours.

“Adele is simply amazing,” said Marcia Long, director of the volunteers. “She goes to water aerobics in the morning and then she comes here afterward.”
