Okamura shines at gymnastics regionals

Redmond High School junior Alexa Okamura placed fourth in her age group at the Level 10 gymnastics Region 2 Championships held in Pullman, Wash. last weekend, earning a berth to Nationals in Long Beach, Calif. on May 13.

Region 2 consists of competitors from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Hawaii and Alaska.

Okamura scored 8.85 on vault, 9.125 on bars, 9.375 on beam and 9.25 on floor for an all-around total of 36.60. Her scores on beam and floor were good enough for second place individually in those events.

She competes for Gymnastics East in Bellevue and is coached by Kim Thomson, Tammy Carney, Remus Dragan and Tamara Diles.
