Redmond High junior Jessica Kinssies set two personal bests at last week's 4A Kingco track and field meet

The Redmond High girls’ track and field team polished off a fine 4A Kingco Tournament on Friday at Juanita High School, scoring 109 team points and finishing in a tie for first place with Inglemoor.

The Mustangs particularly shined in the field events, with Darcy Hardwick finishing runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 7.50 inches. Jessica Kinssies set two new personal bests to post wins in the discus and shot put. Kinssies cleared 100 feet in the discus for the first time ever with a toss of 100-1 to win the gold medal. Then later in the shot put, Kinssies soared past the competition with a toss of 37-7.75 to win by over three feet.

High jump specialist Katie Lord and teammate Joy Zhang finished 1-2 in the event with leaps of 5-3 and 5-0, respectively, and Aliyah Steiner, a sophomore, leaped 33-3.5 in the triple jump for a fifth-place finish and a new personal best.

On the oval, Katherine Smiley placed third in both the 100 (12.84 seconds) and 200 (26.22), with Mandy Rusch also taking third in the 400 (59.49).

Distance specialist Holly Young’s highest finish was fourth in the 3,200 (11:23.93), and Alison Hix took fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.65).

Redmond’s relay teams placed in the top four each time, with the 1,600 meter relay squad of Rusch, Amy Pumputis, Hardwick and Smiley winning in 4:01.21.

On the boys’ side, Cotter Boyle had placed seventh in the 400 meters (51.53), and senior Miles Hille placed fourth in the 1,600 meters and fifth in the 800 meters, just ahead of teammate Max Dunn.

The teams next participate at the 4A Northwest Regionals, which takes place at Quil Ceda Stadium in Marysville on Wednesday and Friday starting at 3:30 p.m.  At Regionals, the top five individuals and relay teams in each event earn automatic berths to the 4A state championships.

The Redmond High fastpitch team took care of Skyline with ease, 11-6, in a 4A Kingco matchup Friday at Skyline High.

Melissa White pitched a complete game, allowing six runs on 10 hits, but her offense came through to preserve the win.

Redmond got on the board early, scoring twice in the first and second innings, before exploding in the fifth for six runs on five hits by Hannah Raudebaugh, White, Stephanie Gero, Natalie Roberts and Lindsay Cristobal.

Gero led the offense, going 3-for-5 with a double, triple and two stolen bases, with White helping her cause with a pair of doubles.

The Mustangs have a make-up game against Issaquah today at 4 p.m. at Hartman Park, before opening up the 2011 4A Kingco Tournament against Inglemoor tomorrow at a time to be determined.
