The Redmond girls’ soccer team got their 4A Kingco season off on the right foot with a 2-0 shutout win over Bothell at Pop Keeney Stadium on Tuesday night.
With neither team able to score in the first half, the Mustangs broke through twice in the second half, with Meghan Cooley scoring off Kristin Haymen’s assist in the 50th minute, and five minutes later forward Sierra Bilginer put one in off Sidney Nilsen.
With the win, Redmond evened its overall record at 2-2-2.
Bear Creek boys rout Mount Rainier Lutheran
Playing in a Sea-Tac 2B league matchup on Tuesday night at Marymoor Park, the Grizzly boys scored early and often in a 9-0 rout of Mount Rainier Lutheran.
Mark Phillips scored four times for the second game in a row, twice in both halves, while Frank Sun added two goals in the second half and Nima Abtahi recorded three assists.
Jesse Leuenberger, Garrett Benson, and Brandon Saw also scored in the first half for the Grizzlies.
Goalie Michael Worley recorded the shutout as the Bear Creek improved to 2-0-1 in league play and overall.
Grizzly girls win league opener
The Bear Creek girls’ team handily won its Sea-Tac 2B season opener on Tuesday night against Seattle Lutheran, 5-2.
Morgan Rial led the way with two goals, followed by Whitney Isabell with a goal and an assist. Caroline Bridgewater also put one in and Whitney’s sister Danielle also earned an assist.
For the game, Bear Creek out-shot Seattle Lutheran 21-8.
The win improved the Grizzlies to 2-1-1 overall.
Bear Creek girls slam Seattle Lutheran
The Grizzlies’ strong volleyball team didn’t let up against Seattle Lutheran on Monday night, defeating the Saints 25-9, 25-16 and 25-12 in three games.
Bear Creek outside hitter Makena Schoene had a game-high seven aces and Nikki Peterson slammed nine kills to lead all players.
On defense, Morgan Cadigan (eight digs) and Schoene (six digs) led the way as the Grizzlies improved to 2-0 in Sea-Tac 2B league play and 7-1-1 overall.
Mustangs go low against Bothell at home
Playing at the friendly confines of their home course, Bear Creek Country Club, the Redmond boys’ golf team took four of the top five scoring spots in a 199-220 win over Bothell on Tuesday.
Jimbo Curtin medaled with a 2-over 38, followed by Lyle Rudnicki with a 39 and Jackson Safon and Oliver Rudnicki each carding 40s.
Low man for Bothell was Gavin Stener with a 41 as the Mustangs improved to 4-2 in 4A Kingco league play.
Owl golfers outmatch Cedar Park
Led by Daniel Lee’s round of 1-over 35, the Overlake boys golf team had no trouble defeating Cedar Park Christian 157-198 at Twin Rivers on Tuesday.
In addition to Lee’s medalist honors, all of the Owls’ scores beat Cedar Park’s best effort as Noah Mayer carded a 37 and Jacob Kelly and David Anderson contributed with a 42 and 43, respectively.
