City Council adopts Redmond’s future plans

Redmond City Council adopted a major update to the city’s Comprehensive Plan earlier this month, the first city in the state to complete this milestone within the current state legislated update cycle.
Council’s action culminates a two-year long process involving more than 100 community stakeholders. The State of Washington Growth Management Act requires the periodic update of comprehensive plans to provide a vision and direction for future community development.
Redmond’s vision is to realize the city’s future as a place with vibrant urban centers in downtown and Overlake, improved neighborhood connections, and high quality services delivered in partnership with the community.
The city’s 2011 update maintains this vision while amending the Comprehensive Plan to extend the horizon and growth targets to 2030; incorporate all three aspects of sustainability – environmental stewardship, economic vitality, and social access; reflect changes on the regional, state and local level; and overall, improve readability and organization of the plan.
Redmond will continue to track implementation of the Comprehensive Plan through the city’s updated Community Indicators program, which Council also adopted earlier this month.
Another Redmond milestone this month was City Council’s adoption of Vision Blueprint – Redmond’s Capital Investment Strategy for 2013-2030.
This document is Redmond’s first long range capital investment plan that summarizes all identified capital needs and estimated revenue through 2030.
This document provides an important framework for Redmond’s investment decisions and strategic actions to implement the community’s vision, as described in the Comprehensive Plan.
