Chamber and Hancock’s Bakery in Redmond face off in Hopelink can drive for Hopelink

The Greater Redmond Chamber of Commerce and Hancock’s Bakery in Redmond will face off in the final four of Hopelink’s March Can Drive competition this week.
A strong showing by Redmond Athletic Club (RAC) wasn’t enough to knock out the chamber, which collected 367 pounds of food in the third week. RAC brought in 955 pounds of food during this for a total of 1,838 pounds, but was aced out by the chamber in the overall score this week. The chapter scored 122 overall points to beat RAC’s score of 29 points.
To ensure businesses of all sizes are able to compete on a level playing field, the competition uses a unique scoring system: the total pounds of food donated by a business are divided by the total number of employees, resulting in a competitive score.
In the third week of the contest, defending champ Hancock’s Bakery eliminated 180 Degrees Chiropractic, collecting 512 pounds of food for a score of 146. TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy in Shoreline defeated Jake’s Kirkland/Life is Good, while Guild Mortgage aced out Kirkland’s Hallmark Realty.
The eight businesses competing in week three collected a total of 3,685 pounds of food and $134 in cash, bringing the total for the campaign so far to 13,140 pounds and $2,011.
Hopelink’s third annual competition is patterned after the national spring college basketball tournament, matching businesses in weekly contests to see which can bring in the most food. Teams are bracketed together in pairs and one winner from each two-member bracket advances to the following week.
