Redmond’s Teen Community Scholarship Awards available for high school seniors

Applications for the City of Redmond’s Teen Community Scholarship Awards (CSA) are now available for high school seniors who have performed up to 150 hours of community service with at least half of their hours in Redmond.
The deadline for application packets is April 30 at 5 p.m.
Awards are up to $1,500 and in the past, the city has given out up to four awards.
Redmond Teen Programs and the American Legion Post 161 sponsor the CSA program, with additional support from Faith Lutheran Church. The scholarships support students interested in pursuing post-secondary education and engender the desire to become active contributing citizens of Redmond and the greater community through community service.
To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens and Redmond residents, between 16 and 21, have a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative overall grade point average at his/her high school, submit an official transcript or GED and be graduating in June. Students must also have documentation of community service hours from July 2011 to April 2012 in order to apply — half of which must be competed in Redmond. Service hours may be completed at multiple agencies and nonprofit organizations.
Relatives of the selection committee are ineligible to receive awards.
A completed application packet will include the following: Application form, personal statement (typed 1,000 words, maximum), official high school transcript or copy of GED certificate, verification of 150 hours of community service and two letters of recommendation from community members.
The essay must be typed, autobiographical and focus on the impact the applicant feels the scholarship will have on their personal goals and the community service work they chose.
The final application form must be submitted by April 30 and be filled out completely.
