Redmond Reporter wins five awards in statewide newspaper contest

The Redmond Reporter recently received five awards in the 2012 Better Newspaper Contest sponsored by the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association (WNPA).
Reporter Samantha Pak took second place for best health or medical story with “Digipen student survives sudden cardiac arrest”; and third place for best education story with “Insight graduate’s future shines bright despite tragic past.”
Former editor Bill Christianson took second place for best crime and court story with “Claire Thompson saw the beauty in everything.”
On the creative side, Ernie Yip took second place for most effective use of small space, black-and-white or spot color, with “Aesthetic Denture”; and second place for an ad campaign for a single advertiser, black-and-white or color, with “180 degrees Chiropractic.”
There were about 2,200 entries in news, advertising and Web from 73 non-daily community newspapers across the state in the WNPA contest. The judges were from the New York Press Association.
