The Redmond Police Department’s annual Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Washington will be tomorrow at Idylwood Beach Park at 3650 W. Lake Sammamish Pkwy N.E. in Redmond.
Check-in begins at 10 a.m. and the plunge will be at noon. The event will be St. Patrick’s Day-themed and costumes are encouraged. A costume contest will be held at 11:30 a.m. and prizes for the best costumes as well as top fund-raisers will be awarded just before the big plunge.
Plungers need to raise at least $50 to participate. For those hesitant to jump into the chilly waters of Lake Sammamish but still want to help, they can cheer from the sidelines in the “Chicken Coop.” “Chickens” also need to raise at least $50 to receive a t-shirt and earn prizes. If anyone would like to help raise money for Special Olympics Washington but are unable to attend the plunge, they can sign up for virtual registration.
This year, Mason from Movin’ 92.5 FM will be this year’s emcee and lunch for participants will be provided by Jimmy John’s. In addition, there will be coffee and hot chocolate from Starbucks and treats from Le Rendez-Vous in Redmond. JJ Mahoney’s at 8932 161st Ave. N.E. in Redmond will also be hosting a post-plunge party.
