Redmond Elementary School students painted 400 wooden stakes on Monday that will be used by the City of Redmond Parks Department in an art installation in the Downtown Park later this spring.

Last week, the Redmond Parks Department put out a request for volunteers to help with a public engagement art project in the Downtown Park. The city’s project requires 1,000 brightly colored wooden stakes (green, yellow, orange and red). A commissioned artist will use the stakes in an art project designed to engage the community in figuring out what people want in this new park.

Students offered suggestions about the kinds of things that they would like to see in the park as the master plan is developed. Those suggestions will be passed along to the Redmond Parks Department for its community meeting on Feb. 19.

The suggestions are: ice skating, art on the ground, light festivals, digital games on walls, fun and interesting seating, water jets/splash park.
