Redmond Reporter notches six awards — including two firsts — in state newspaper contest

The Redmond Reporter won six awards at the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association Annual Better Newspaper Contest on Saturday at Campbell’s Resort in Chelan.

In the Group IV division, Samantha Pak took first place for best news story, long, for “Reporter examines homeless situation in Redmond” and Andy Nystrom placed first for color feature photo for “An intimate encounter.”

Also in Group IV, Pak placed second for best news story, short for “Real Change News provides opportunity.”

The Reporter also grabbed three third-place awards in Group IV: Pak’s “Student confronts Speaker Boehner” in best government reporting and “85-year-old Redmond Heights employee to retire” in best personality profile, short, and Nystrom’s “Cummings finds motivation from her brother’s cancer” in best sports personality profile.
