The Redmond Police Department (RPD) is asking neighborhoods to participate in the 32nd Annual National Night Out Against Crime on Aug. 4. The police department, fire department, city council, mayor and others will attend parties between 6-9 p.m.

“If you’ve never participated, it’s a great event for fun, friends and community. If you don’t know your neighbors — this is a great opportunity to meet them,” reads an RPD press release.

Nationally there will be thousands of neighborhood parties, cookouts, ice cream socials, dessert parties and parades. Other neighborhoods will host flashlight walks, safety fairs, poster and essay contests and neighborhood meetings.    National Night Out is designed to:

• Heighten crime awareness and drug-prevention awareness

• Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs

• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships

• Send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

Residents can register their events no later than July 27 by using the online form once they have all pertinent details. For information, contact officer Tom Goepfert at crimeprevention@redmond.gov; (425) 556-2541.
