Multiple Redmond Fire Department (RFD) crews extinguished a residential structure blaze Friday afternoon in the 8100 block of 172nd Avenue Northeast near Nike Park.

According to Becky Range, Redmond Police Department public information officer, there were no injuries and she said a firefighter noted that the blaze was under control at 1:57 p.m. The north and south ends of 172nd were closed during the incident.

RFD Battalion Chief Doug Kammerzell reported that “initial reporting parties stated a brush fire caught the neighboring house on fire.”

On arrival, RFD crews witnessed that the fire spread to the second floor and attic.

“The initial attack line was used to knock down much of the fire so interior crews could get inside to extinguish the well-involved attic space,” Kammerzell said.

Cormac Meagher, who lives five houses down from the home on fire, was eating lunch when the emergency vehicles drove past with sirens wailing.

“I stepped outside and saw the smoke,” said Meagher, who snapped photos. “The fire department had it knocked down quickly, within 10 minutes or so.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
