Two Redmond residences lose power due to Saturday storm

Two residences in Redmond lost power due to the storm on Saturday.

Lisa Rhodes, communications and marketing manager for the City of Redmond, said overall, the city fared well.

She said the public works department had some minor debris and tree limb clean up on a few streets and there were very few traffic issues as many stayed in that night.

Throughout Saturday evening, the Redmond Police Department’s (RPD) Twitter page posted updates on the storm.

As the storm started to pick up around 7:40 p.m., police advised on the page for people to “use caution at 15900 Redmond Way near trestle bridge,” as one lane was starting to flood.

By 8:12 p.m., the RPD tweeted that the storm had died down, stating that they received “very few calls for service, no power outages and not much street debris,” calling it “great news.”

And while only two Redmond residences lost power due to the storm, Rhodes said a few hundred residences south of Ames Lake — which are not in the city limits but are in Fire District 34 — also lost power.

“We prepared our response based on weather predictions,” Rhodes said. “Even though the storm was degraded, it was an excellent opportunity for our emergency teams to plan a coordinated response. Our public works, fire and police departments will respond better together for the next storm, having had this practice.”

RPD also tweeted about the city’s preparations for the storm.
