Published 1:30 pm Tuesday, October 18, 2016

The Bear Creek School is hosting Tools for Success, a parenting and education event, on Nov. 5.

Tools for Success is free and open to the public, featuring two simultaneous seminars each with a keynote and multiple breakout sessions on a variety of developmental, educational and academic topics. Parents with children of all ages as well as middle school and high school students will gain the latest in academic information and advice in addition to parenting research and support strategies.

Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for coffee and refreshments. Keynotes begin at 9 a.m. The school is located at 8905 208th Ave. N.E., Redmond.

In the seminar targeted toward parents of preschool- and elementary age children, Denise Peeler, teacher and speaker, will give the keynote on “Courageous Character.” In addition to the keynote address, there will be three breakout sessions with multiple topics to choose from presented by Bear Creek faculty and guest speakers, including “Tools for Developing Great Readers,” “What to Do About Screen Time? The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” and “Raising an Introvert in an Extroverted World.”

Simultaneously, parents with children in middle school and high school (as well as students themselves) can attend sessions such as “Tool Kit for Developing Great Writers,” “The Middle School Brain and How It Works Differently Than Yours,” and “Can We Instill Virtue in our Children?” There are even breakout topics targeted specifically for students such as “Matching Your Passions and Strengths to Possible Majors and Careers.” Bob Gomulkiewicz, Foundation Professor of Law at the University of Washington, will deliver the keynote entitled “Data Driven Parenting.”
