Redmond City Council adopted a resolution on June 22 that affirmed its support for community centers.
The report included recommendations solicited from 3,600 community members and based on the feedback, a group helped develop recommendations on how the city should move forward in planning future centers.
Highlights from the recommendations include within five years a community center or centers should meet the needs in the city for such a center.
The spaces needed should include aquatics and fitness capabilities, flexible spaces for cultural arts and events and community spaces for meetings, classes and gatherings, a press release from the city said.
It also directed staff to locate a future community center location and a funding package.
Over the next two years, the city will work with a stakeholder group and the community to meet the goals.
