Two new elementary schools in Redmond have been named following a March 5 Lake Washington School District board meeting.
The school in north Redmond will be named Clara Barton Elementary School after the famous Civil War nurse.
A press release from the district said the school will focus on developing social and emotional and leadership skills in children through inter-disciplinary skills.
The second school in Redmond Ridge east will be named Ella Baker.
Baker was a hero of the Civil Rights Freedom Movement who associated with Rosa Parks, the NAACP, Martin Luther King Jr.’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.
The school will seek to develop students as global citizens through service learning.
