Jon Campbell saved his most mammoth hit for last in game one.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Overlake/Bear Creek baseball player hammered a grand slam to put the Growls ahead, 12-10, over Bellevue Christian in the 1A state tournament on May 18 at Franklin Pierce in Tacoma. The Growls won by that score and advanced in the tournament.

The Growls got three hits each from Jay Sivadas, Gabe Villaflor and Ananth Iyer and two hits apiece from Campbell and Andrew Hom.

In the quarterfinals later that day, Chelan beat the Growls, 9-2, to end the locals’ season. Villaflor doubled and Campbell singled.
