Redmond police investigate suspicious death as homicide

What once appeared to be a natural death is now being investigated by Redmond police as a homicide.

On May 13, police were notified about a deceased family member. The 59-year-old woman was found in her apartment at the 9300 block Avondale Road in Redmond.

Police did not see any obvious signs of foul play at the scene, but over the weekend, the King County Medical Examiner’s Office discovered that the woman had died of a gunshot to the head.

There were no signs of struggle or forced entry, and no firearms were present in the apartment that were consistent with the wound, according to Redmond police.

No suspect has been identified. Officials believe the woman may have died May 12, the day before she was found.

Police are asking the community to report any suspicious activity around the apartment complex on May 12 and May 13. Tips can be reported to the Redmond non-emergency line at 425-556-2500 or submitted anonymously through an online crime tip for case number 20-009113.
