No one was injured as firefighters extinguished a two-alarm fire at a Redmond apartment complex Thursday afternoon.
Just before noon, crews from Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland and Woodinville fire departments responded to a two-alarm fire at The Onyx Apartments, a 400-unit complex at 4850 156th Ave. N.E. in Redmond.
Crews quickly controlled the fire, which extended 15 feet out one window before being extinguished, according to Redmond Fire Department (RFD) spokesperson Jim Bove.
RFD is investigating the cause of the fire, which is still unknown, according to Bove.
The fire and damage was contained to a second-story unit. The apartment residents were not home during the fire and neighbors who were home were able to safely evacuate and avoid injuries, Bove said.
Bove commended the neighbors for their quick responses to evacuate and call 911.
Bove said the apartment complex, built in 1983, is not equipped with a sprinkler system because it was built before they were required, but Onyx Apartments had recently passed inspection and the buildings are all up to code.
